Friday 11th July: Race day 3

Another beautiful sailing day. We had 3 starts. Unfortunately our speedometer didn’t work today because of a bad electrical connection.

Race 1: On the second upwind leg crash tack because Paprec crash tacked on another boat’s nose ad came luffing up straight towards us. We turned a 720. We ended 60th.

Race 2: The first beat went quite well after a decent start. But in the approach of the first upwind on the port lay line we tacked very close on the nos of Needles and Pins, and unfortunately, we touched the mark. It was a bad choice because we had to pinch without speed towards the doggy leg mark. And hell, we touched it too! The next challenge was to find a free spot to turn two 360s before hoisting the genn. Amazing how many boats passed us by before the genn was hoisted. We were not last at the gate but came in last at the second upwind mark. We ended last!! I guarantee it’s a strange feeling.

Race 3: Another decent start. But again losing distance on the upwind legs. Very crowded at the finish line when we came in on port tack. We were forced to tack away towards the pin. But we had to sail to deep to reach it and lost much speed. Result: 50th
