Saturday 12th July: Last race day & Going home

Saturday 12 th.  Last Racing day. Only 2 more to go to reach the maximum of 12 races for this championship. Alexis repaired the speedometer.

Moderate wind was predicted in the morning, heavy wind and showers for the afternoon.

Race 1:  We wanted to have an up speed start, but arrived 2 boat lengths too late on the starting line. Nonetheless we found better upwind speed and angle than before in this championship. In fact every competitor was improving, the fleet staying much closer together than during the first races. We managed to stay in the middle of the fleet until an unhappy mistake saw the genn catching water after rounding the second upwind mark. We were shrimping for many minutes, but it seemed like eternity. Meanwhile the wind was already increasing. Once the genn was up we had an amazing run to the finish line. The speed never went below 12 knots, we had long runs of more than 16 knots. And in one big gust we topped 18.92 knots! A new personal record and quite a kick ass experience. We crossed the line in 54th position.

Race 2 was canceled because of the heavy wind. All returned to port. These Worlds are over.

Next was queuing for being hauled out of the water and returning home the next day.

We learnt a lot. We have a lot of practice to do. We had a lot of fun. And we have a new record: 18.92 knots…
