Windy Conditions for Day one of the J80 Worlds

Today, tuesday, racing started at 11h. The huge fleet was divided into 2 starting groups to avoid too crowded starts. We were one of the first boats on the water to check our latest settings in the windy conditions of the Baie de Quiberon.

We had an average start in race one followed by an average beat, as we went left and right was favoured, but managed to come back during the second beat when the wind weakened because we were in the center of the depression. We were just below the

During the start procedure of race 2 the strong wind had returned. After a general recall the fleet headed upwind for the 1,8nm beat. We had a perfect start forcing Kevin Sproul to tack away. We were very well placed at the first upwind mark but had a lousy gennaker set folllowed by a whipe out due to jammed sheets. Unfortunately  The downwind rides were good but not as thrilling as in race 3 when the wind was at it's full power resulting in 17kts downwind rides. I forgot my goggles to trim the Gen while under water! The results of the day will be announced later on.

Race 3 started with a general recall. We had a lousy start 3 boatlengths away from the line. We did some well timed tacks and gained some distance. We had a good downwind ride but overshot the mark as we couldn't see the mark because we forgot our periscope at home. We had to crawl back to the mark which cost us at least 10 places. All we could do during the second beat was to minimize the damage but nevertheless we managed to overtake some boats during the last downwind submarine ride of the day.

Unfortunately due to the windy conditions I couldn't take pictures while sailing today.
