30th June - :
Preparation Days
I arrived at La
Trinité Saturday morning in La Trinité sur mer. After meeting with the
crew we discussed the schedule while enjoying the
delightfull French Cuisine. We spend the whole afternoon wetsanding the
bottom and applying McLube while there was a huge stream of J80 from
various countries arriving . The German teams immediately caught our
attention when they arrived with a second trailer filled with beer!
Needless to say we felt the urge to immediately investigate this. They
told us it was to promote the J80 Worlds 2008 that will be held in Kiel,
Germany.
Sunday preparation
carried on with a short sail in the Baie de Quiberon to check the
settings. We did some upwind speed checks against one of the American
entries 'Le Glide'. After a couple of gennakers sets and gybes and lots of
spray in our faces we returned to port. All J80 are moored in the
harbour at the Mole Eric Tabarly. It's an amazing sight to see more than
100 J80's moored together.
On Monday there was
a training regatta in windy conditions which allowed us to check some
alternative settings. After some good downwind runs during which we
could enjoy first seat places for lot's of whipe outs all the boats
sailed back to port. The day ended with the opening ceremony later in
the evening.
